Notes
LASER = Light Amplification by Stimulated Emission of Radiation. It needs population inversion (more atoms in the excited state than in the ground state) via energy pumping. A passing photon stimulates an atom to emit one more identical photon (same phase · direction · wavelength). A two-mirror optical cavity reflects light back and forth to amplify it → a coherent, monochromatic, collimated beam.
